Chemical Coordination and Integration

Functioning of cell and movement of organ require a highly specific control system and process. This requirement is met by the chemicals released in the body, which are also termed as hormones. The hormonal system controls the tissue as well as the nervous system for a balanced working of the body. This chapter deals with the hormones and their effect on various organs of the body.

Class 11 Chapter 24 - Chemical Coordination and Integration

The various organs in human body are part of a vast system which works together. Brain alone or even the nervous system is insufficient in completely controlling it. Chemicals called as hormones play a major role in completing the control system in the body. The recipient or target organs are under the influence of hormones, which are produced by endocrine glands, which serves as its source. These hormones are produced in small amounts, have finite lifespan and spread through the circulatory system. This chapter covers in details the chemical hormones, organs that produce them and their effect on target organs.
